Producing fun lasertag picnic parties

Sflasertag is a non-profit event producer, hosting themed lasertag picnic parties in the San Francisco Bay Area.  We play capture-the-flag games, using the latest high-end outdoor lasertag equipment that we rent from Specopsliveplay in Oakdale CA.  We provide commercial-grade two-way radio headsets for each player to encourage teamwork and help make the game more exciting.  We also arrange for food and a festive party atmosphere for our picnic events.

Playing in the beautiful outdoors

Our parties take place area parks and open space preserves, lasting most of the day.  We usually play capture-the-flag games, playing in a 5-10 acre area.  Each game is around 12-20 minutes, with no more than 24 players playing at any given time.  We usually have between 30-60 participants attending our events, and usually another dozen or so spectators.

Treasuring and preserving our environment

For parks and conservation, our lasertag events are passive recreation in that we don't do anything to modify the natural surrounding.  Our games generally have no more than 20 players in a 6-10 acre gaming area supervised by 4 referees.  Our lasertag guns are very quiet and emit no projectile or real laser beam.  Every player wears a radio headset so there is no shouting or gaming noise.  Most of the time there are other park guests in our gaming area completely oblivious to the fact that we're playing lasertag games.  We only play in areas players can safely wonder off-trail without damaging our environment.

Our parks and preserves are our treasures, and we are determined to only play in areas where we can do so safely without impacting the park environment or diminishing the enjoyment of other park guests.  We only produce these events with the approval of the park rangers, their respective park and recs department, and local law enforcement.

Lasertag is an intense adventure activity, and we take many precautions to make sure that our events are both safe and sustainable.  Half of the enjoyment of our events is enjoying the natural splendor and beauty that our parks and preserves provide.

Bringing people together

Most players at our events have little or no lasertag experience.  Lasertag is a sport that’s easy to learn and fun to play for everyone.  Our games are all about teamwork and strategy.

We form teams of 5-10 players each and usually keep the same teams throughout the day.  This helps build unity and teamwork among players.  Our games are usually quite fun to watch as well as participate in.  Between games, players can watch other teams play and even listen to their radiocom traffic in the picnic area.

Places to play lasertag near San Francisco

Unfortunately there aren't any places to play lasertag in San Francisco. If you're looking for a place to play lasertag near San Francisco, I recommend any of the following lasertag sites:

  • LasertaggingInc in Newark - (510) 668-1200 conveniently located near Fremont, LasertaggingInc has a well designed spacious two-level indoor arena and new equipment from LazerRunner.  I'm very excited to finally have a lasertag arena accessible by public transit.  LazerRunner vests are unique in that the laserbeam the phasers fire is the actual shot. The hit sensors are fiber optic, and have a real-time feedback that lets you know when you've tagged someone.  It makes for very precise game play. They also have great birthday party rates.
  • Laserquest in Mountain View- (650) 965-9800 most convenient to Silicon Valley, Laserquest games are typically elegant in their simplicity.  There are no teams.  You basically shoot anything with lights.  They have a two-level indoor maze, and their system requires very sharp aim to score a hit.  There is no real-time hit confirmation, but scores are periodically updated on your gun's display via radio link.  Also the players use codenames rather than pack numbers, and the player's codename who shot you appears on your gun's display, which is fun for gloating!
  • Zapszone (Lasertron) in Stockton- (209) 478-9277 This is a new indoor two-level lasertag arena that has the latest Lasertron V11.5 lasertag equipment- one of the most indestructable and accurate I've played on.  They have real-time scoring with in-game announcements that tell you what's happening during the game.  They play team games, and Lasertron's gameplay is usually fast and furious.  They also use codenames, and they have monitors in the field that let you see the scores during the game.
  • Laserforce in Sacramento - (916) 972-7395  One of my person favorite systems to play on, Laserforce V6 uses a reverse-IR system which gives players lots of feedback and game interaction.  It offers latency-free hit confirmation, real-time scoring, and in-game announcements. They have a large indoor 2 level arena that's run by players who love the game, and it shows. For players, this is one of the best performing lasertag systems available, and I highly recommend making the trip.
  • Specopsliveplay (209) 985-7417 has a great outdoor field in Oakdale CA, but they'll travel to you if you have a place to play.   Sometimes you can't beat playing lasertag in the great outdoors, especially if the weather's nice.  Specopsliveplay uses Battlefieldsports V2 SATR for outdoor lasertag, one of the best performing lasertag systems I've ever played on.  It has a latency-free radio-based hit confirmation and real-time scoring.  This is serious lasertag equipment for serious players.
I personally play at all of these lasertag centers regularly and i highly recommend any of them for your group or birthday party.  There is no better high-adventure activity for celebrating a birthday party then playing lasertag.
